Domain Names
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) manages the campus domain name system (DNS).
Researchers in the School of Engineering can request a domain name in the eng.uci.edu domain (example: saunderslab.eng.uci.edu). Note that connecting a new server to the campus network is a multi-step process. Start here: https://helpdesk.eng.uci.edu/faculty/connecting-uci-network
To request a DNS name under eng.uci.edu, submit the OIT Domain Name Request Form.
Top level subdomains (example: saunderslab.uci.edu) are reserved for official UCI school, department, or other campus-level organizational units. Other domains managed by Engineering are for specialized use only, e.g., engineering.uci.edu - Samueli School public website. If you have questions or specialized needs, please contact helpdesk@eng.uci.edu.
Note that your computer does not require a DNS name if it does not provide services. You can connect and obtain an IP Address automatically using DHCP from a wired Ethernet port or over UCI WiFi in most Engineering building locations.
